Best Snap and Shoot Digital Camera

When it comes to finding the best snap and shoot digital camera, there are a number of things you need to consider, such as price, size, controls, and various other features. Things like this are rarely totally clear-cut, and this is why we have included three different cameras here. They all have their merits, and are all great cameras in their own way.

Number 1 Best Snap and Shoot Digital Camera

Best Snap and Shoot Digital Camera

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35

For the price, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 is one hell of a great camera. Not only does it have 12.1 megapixels resolution, a 2.7 inch TFT LCD screen, and the ability to record HD video as 1280 x 720 resolution, it also has very much a more professional style SLR feel to it, with its nice big 27mm wide-angle lens with 18x optical zoom.

However, despite saying all that, you may find the camera to be smaller and lighter than it appears in the photo, which is a pleasant surprise. Any experienced or semi-experienced photographers will certainly be impressed with this camera’s manual controls, which is great if you want to get a bit creative or need that extra bit of control over your images.

However, having said all that, more inexperienced users should not be scared off by any of this, as the DMC-FZ35’s Intelligent Auto function ensures that superb images are produced even when using it in true point-and-shoot style.

Other great features of the DMC-FZ35 include:

  • Fast Start-up Time
  • Extra Zoom Function – to let you get in even closer,  by sacrificing a bit of image resolution, which at 12.1 MP you have plenty of here anyway
  • Image Stabilization – great for getting sharp images at low light and full-zoom shooting
  • Creative Movie Mode
  • Zoom-in Movie
  • My Color Mode
  • Long Battery Life

All in all, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 is the kind of camera that let’s even the most inexperienced of photographers take truly impressive photos.

Number 2 Best Snap and Shoot Digital Camera

Canon G12Canon G12

Coming in a second place, the Canon G12 has an impressive 10 megapixel image resolution, shoots 720p HD video, 5x optical zoom, and Canon’s Hybrid IS to stabilize your images. It has the ability to shoot to RAW, which gives greater creative control to more advanced users.

This is a fantastic tool for serious photographers, but it’s certainly not perfect. Some people may find the viewfinder too small and fiddly, and the same is also true with the rear control wheel. Also, some users may find the lens isn’t wide enough.

Having said that, it does offer truly outstanding image quality, with processed RAW files looking superb. Operation speed and construction quality are also good, and the controls are absolutely fantastic.

So, all in all, this is an extremely good camera, but it does have some flaws, and the price is higher than the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35.

Camera Number 3

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20

First things first, let me just say that, out of the three cameras featured on this page, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 is the cheapest by far. So if you need a camera that’s well below $200, then this is the one for you.

But don’t be mistaken that just because this has a cheaper price tag, that this isn’t a top quality camera, because it is. The 14.1 megapixel image sensor means that this camera has the highest image resolution of these three cameras. Also, it’s 8x optical zoom is the equivalent of the zoom range of 28-224mm on a 35mm film camera, so that should be fine for most scenes.

All things considered, if you want a great quality digital camera at a very reasonable price, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 is a great choice.
